Regional Public Listening Sessions
Throughout the month of May 2010, the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board traveled across the state to six different
locations to allow Ohioans the opportunity to provide input to the board and to educate the board members and public
on the various factors the board needs to consider as it begins to establish standards of livestock care.
At each of these sessions, the public was encouraged to offer comments to members of the board responding to the
question: "Keeping in mind the factors required by the enabling legislation, how can the board best create standards of livestock care?"
More than 700 Ohioans attended the listening sessions, and 142 agricultural producers, consumers and animal welfare advocates
provided oral comment to the board. At least 11 board members were present at each of the sessions, and 10 different agricultural
economists, animal scientists and veterinarians led educational sessions on various factors of economics, food affordability,
biosecurity, animal well-being, veterinary practices and food safety.
