The mission of the Ohio Department of Agriculture is to
provide regulatory protection to producers, agribusinesses and the consuming
public; to promote Ohio agricultural products in domestic and international
markets; and to educate the citizens of Ohio about our agricultural
industry. A well-regulated, productive, and profitable agriculture industry
is vital to Ohio’s social stability, as a key part of a diverse
and thriving economy and a source of good jobs for hundreds of thousands
of Ohioans.
is a new public information project
that aims to foster a better understanding among Ohioans about the economic
and social impact of modern agriculture in Ohio. The project will use
several strategies to send Ohio Agriculture’s positive message
to urban and rural non-farm consumers:
"Keep a Good Thing Growing"
television advertising campaign
After a public kick-off event on August 7 at the Ohio State Fair,
ODA will launch two 15-second television advertisements geared towards
helping Ohioans better understand the importance of agriculture to
the state’s economy. The ads will be aired in a three-month
TV advertising campaign across Ohio beginning August 26.
OhioAgInfo.com website
To serve as clearinghouse for promotional information about Ohio agriculture,
www.OhioAgInfo.com will initially offer general facts, news &
editorials, recipes, and profiles on farms and farmers on the cutting
edge of Ohio agriculture. Over time, we plan to add a multimedia tour,
kid’s page, and an interactive component where consumers can
communicate with a variety of modern family farmers. This web site
will be updated with information on a regular basis and will require
content from a variety of agricultural sources. It is designed to
be a first-stop for those seeking knowledge about Ohio’s agriculture
industry and to advocate agriculture’s important role in Ohio
life.
Updated State Fair Display
and Collateral
An updated display in the department’s exhibit area in the George
V. Voinovich Livestock and Trade Center will showcase the promotional
campaign and educate passers-by about the modern family farmer. A
customized seed packet will share "quick facts" about Ohio
agriculture and promote hands-on involvement by consumers who want
to keep a good thing growing.
News Media Campaign
A news media campaign will run simultaneously to tell the story of
Ohio agriculture across the state. It will target Ohio daily and weekly
newspaper editors, especially those with an interest in business,
food, agriculture, and lifestyle; magazines and Sunday supplements,
radio stations, farm radio, and television. We will showcase specific
areas of agriculture and work with editors on an individual basis
to pitch feature stories about different commodities and farmers;
scientific articles on trends in Ohio agriculture; and business profiles
on cutting-edge farms using new strategies in production, marketing,
environmental protection, and community relations.
This project is administered by the Ohio Department of
Agriculture using funds established by an act of Congress in August
2001, which provided an equal grant of $500,000 to each state to promote
agriculture. (H.R. 2213, PL 107-25, Section 7 of public law #107-25)
